Dibru-Saikhowa is one of the most renowned National Park located at Tinsukia district of Assam. Known for its vibrant wildlife, Dibru-Saikhowa also qualifies in the list of one of the nineteen biosphere reserve in the world. The fine combination of bamboo, grasslands, wet evergreen forests and deciduous forest makes it a hotspot for any tourists. It was opened to public as a national park in the year of 1999. Surrounded by rivers like Lohit and Brahmaputra from the north and river Dibru from the south, Dibru-Saikhowa National Park sits quietly occupying a total area of 314 sq km. It serves as the home to many migratory as well as endangered species.

Dibru-Saikhowa receives an annual rainfall of 2300 mm to 3800 mm. The temperature of this place stays high between June to August and it falls between December and January making this period the coldest of all.

Dibru-Saikhowa National Park consist of 35.84% of mixed moist forests, approximately 21.25% of grassland and more than 9% of degraded forest. It is a homeland of trees like Terminalia myriocarpa, Dalbergia sissoo, Tetrasperma, Bombax ceiba, Mesua ferrea, Lagerstroemia parviflora, Dillenia indica, Bischofi a javanica etc. Greeneries are in huge abundance in Dibru-Saikhowa. You will come across grasses like Imperata cylindrica, Erianthus ravanea, Arundo donax and Phragmaties karka.
Dibru-Saikhowa National Park Fauna
Few common animals to be found here are elephant, tiger, water buffalo, capped langur, Hog Deer, Rhesus Macaque, Jungle Cat, Slow Loris, Sloth Bear, Hollock Gibbon, Malayan Giant Squirrel, Pig Tailed Macaque, Chinese Pangolin, Wild Boar, barking Deer, river dolphin and many more. This national park is also famous for the bright coloured horses called Feral Horse. So far, 36 mammals have been seen and recorded.

Lizards and turtles can also be found in this park. Be a little careful as there are almost 8 species of snakes which roams around in this National Park.
You can spot birds like Pallah’s fishing eagle, spot billed pelican, pale-capped pigeon, white bellied heron, swamp francolin, Bengal Florican, Griffon Vulture, Crested Serpent Eagle, White Winged Duck, Great Pied Hornbill, Purple Heron, Purple Heron, and many more. It is also a safe shelter for migratory birds like Brahmini duck, greyleg goose, pelican, bar-headed goose, black stork and many more.
How to reach Dibru-Saikhowa National Park
Dibru-Saikhowa National Park can be easily accessed from Tinsukia. There are many buses which will take you directly to the park.
By Rail – You can catch any train which passes through Dibrugarh.
By Flight – The nearest airport to Tinsukia is Mohanbari, which is just 40 kms away from the town.

You need to pay a small amount of money for entering the park. Tourist are restricted from entering the place before sunrise and late in the evening or after the sunset. Also picnics inside the park is strictly prohibited.
