|| ॐ नमो भगवते वासुदेवाय ||

|| Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya ||

ॐ નમો ભગ્વતે વાસુદેવાય (Gujarati)

Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya means “Om, I bow to Lord Vasudeva or Lord Krishna”

Om : Refers to the Supreme Infinite Spirit or Person. Om represents the Shabda Brahman.

Namo : Salutation, worship , a common spoken valediction or salutation originating from the Indian subcontinent. ‘Namo’ नमो is the Sandhi form of ‘namas’ नमस्.

Bhagavate : comes from bhāga = opulence, grandeur, [bhāgya, airshvarya]. Therefore ,”O Bramhan who is the owner of all bhāga”, i.e. Who is Bhagavān i.e. Who has the following 6 oppulences in full amounts :

1)Shri (wealth) 2) kīrtī (fame) 3) shaktī (strength) 4) jñāna (knowledge, wisdom) 5) lāvaṇya (beauty) 6) vairāgya (renunciation).

Despite having all these qualities, He is fully renounced, He is never attached to them.
Vasudevaya : Name of Krishna, Krishna is also known as Vaasudeva (Krishna), because he was the son of Vasudeva. In the Bhagavad-Gita, Arjuna called Krishna by the name Vaasudeva multiple times. ‘Vāsudevāya’ वासुदेवाय is the dative of ‘vāsudeva’ वासुदेव. Other meaning for Vasudevaya is Vasu means “Life in all beings” Devaya means “God”. This means God(life/light) who lives of all beings.

Swami Vivekananda used this phrase multiple times in his lectures and letters. This mantra is given by Devaṛshi Nārad to the 5 year old Dhruva who left the kingdom to perform austerities in the forest to please Bhagavan Vishṇu and get back his rightful share of the kingdom.

Number of Times to Chant this Mukti – Liberation Mantra is 11, 108, or 1008 times and best day to initiate this mantra is on any Ekadashi.

It is called Dvadasakshari Mantra(12 lettered). It is a Krishna mantra. This mantra when perfected gives vision of Lord Krishna. Vaasudeva means ‘All pervading intelligence.’

It has the same meaning as the Gayatri Mantra.

This twelve syllable mantra is known as a Mukti (liberation) mantra and a spiritual formula for attaining freedom.

“ सर्वधर्मान्परित्यज्य मामेकं शरणं व्रज ।
अहं त्वां सर्वपापेभ्यो मोक्षयिष्यामि मा शुचः ॥१८- ६६॥”
Translation

Relinquishing everything else and all ideas of righteousness surrender unto me (Krishna) exclusively.
I (Krishna) will deliver you from all sins (sinful reactions), do not despair. [Gita 18/66]

Krishna also proclaimed “Everybody should recite “Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya” mantra daily whenever possible so that I will stand by them. I respond to the call of the heart immediately and invariably. See me in your duties. I am committed to those who are committed to their duties. Believe in putting faith in me and make me your own”.[10]
