Satpura National Park, Satpura is a Sanskrit word, which means seven mountains, Satpura National Park is a beautiful place and shelter of wildlife and flora and fauna. Satpura Tiger Reserve (STR) also known as Satpura National Park is located in the Narmadapuram District of Madhya Pradesh in India.

Satpura national Park is located in Hoshangabad district, in Madhya Pradesh. Madhya Pradesh is located in center if India. Madhya Pradesh is the city of many famous places and national park, Satpura national park is one of them. The national park is adjoining with Bori Sanctuary and Panchmarhi wildlife sanctuary from 1981. The Satpura Park covers 524 sq km of area, and “ Satpura Tiger reserve” covers 1427km of area.

History and Significance

Satpura National Park is one of the parts of Panchmarhi Biosphere Reserve. There are many safari facilities available like jungle safari, jeep safari, elephant safari, walking safari and boat safari. The pure and unspoiled environment of Satpura national Park attracts many tourists; here you will found unique views of nature and ecosystem. The fascinating valleys, sandstones peaks, rivulets, waterfalls, narrow gorges, dense green forest of Sal, and medicinal herbs, and teak forest all have much significance for national park and wildlife.

Jungle safari, Elephant safari and Tigers are the center of the attraction of the National Park.

Jungle Safari– This is one of the main activity of the park, many tourists come to visit here only for jungle safari. Jungle safari can be done by open jeeps, elephant ride, and sometimes tourists want to do walking safari into deep forest for know about the wild animals and trees from near. Denwar River and Tawa Dam backwater are the places where tourists can enjoy the boating, canoe and nature’s photography. Foreign tourists can also visit the villages.

Tiger Show-Tiger show is organized by national park authority. In this show you can watch the Tiger on the back of Elephant. The show duration is only for 5-10 minutes. You can go for elephant safari to tracking the tiger into deep jungle, and can watch tiger’s natural habitats and behavior. The show is organized during morning safari.

Fauna and Flora of Satpura National Park

Dominant Fauna– Tiger, Leopard, four Horned Antelope, Chital, Neelgai, Wild Boar, buck, Fox, Bhedki, Rhesus, Flying Squirrel, Elephants, Water Buffalos, monkeys, Lion, and Barasingha etc, you will find here 50 species of mammals.

Birds– 254 species of birds are living in national park which includes Malabar whistling Thrush, Honey Buzzard, Malabar Pied Hornbill, paradise Fly Catcher etc.

Butterflies– there are 50 different and colorful species of butterflies you can see. Except that 30 species of reptiles like snakes, Lizards and others species are also available.

Dominant Flora– the National park has dense and deep forest area. Sal and Teak are main species which you will found everywhere in the park. There are 1190 species of flowering plants; many of them are still not identified. Trees and plants are distributed into 180 families which include thallophytes, pteridophytes, and bryophytes.

Pench National Park – It is a popular wildlife park, Located in the edge of Madhya Pradesh.

Kanha National Park – This national park is 380km away from Satpura National Park.

Pachmaarhi – It is the beautiful hill Station, which is famous for Trekking and views.

Nauradehi Wildlife Sanctuary – This is famous wildlife Sanctuary; there is preservation of many animals like wild dogs, blue bulls, bears, foxes etc.

These all places are stated in hilly area, and with beautiful scenic view. After completing the tour of Satpura you must have visit all of them.

Best Time To Visit The Park

The park remains open for visitors from 1st October to 15th June, but the best time to visit the park is from October to April. In rainy season the national park remains closed, that is from July to September.

Entry Fee & Online Bookings

The jeep safari of Satpura national park can be done 3 routes.

The first route is Keria Route that is spread over 14km. and the charges for Keria route is 2750/-, which includes 1250 for entry of jeep into forest with tourists, 300rs for the forest guide, and 1200 for hiring the jeep. You will find here Sloth Bear, Leopards, Malabar Squirrels, Spotted deer, Barking Deer, and many types of birds.

Lagda Route– including Keria Route, Lagda route is spread over 20km. for Lagda Route, the jeep safari charges are 3050/-, which includes 1250 for entry fee of jeep and tourists into forest, 300 for guide, and 1500 is jeep’s charges. The scenic view of Lagda is very beautiful, and it is one of the favorite routes for tourists.

Churna Route– Churna route is a whole day trip, and it is equivalent to 2 safaris. Churna route has spread over 30km. and you will have to pay for its safari 6700, which have 2500/- for entry of jeep into forest, 700 for forest guide, and 3500 for hiring the jeep. Here is the most probability of seeing the Tiger. Tourists can also have breakfast and lunch here.

Online booking are also available for jeep safari, and others safari. You can book your seats in advance, and according to your time.

How To Reach To Satpura National Park

By Air– there are three major airports, through you can reach to Satpura National Park. One is Raja Bhoj airport in Bhopal, which is 209km from Satpura, Jabalpur airport, and Dr. Baba Sahib Ambedakar international airport in Nagpur. This is 274km.

By Rail– The nearest railway station is in Pipariya, this is 50km from the park, the second is in Bhopal and third railway station is in Jabalpur.

By Road-Satpura National Park is very well connected with major cities like Bhopal, Nagpur, Jabalpur and Chindwara. There are many private and government vehicles are available for the park, you can choose from them according your comfort.
