Sundha Mata temple is a nearly 900-year-antique temple of Mother goddess located on a hilltop known as Sundha, placed in Jalore District of Rajasthan. It is 64 km from Mount Abu and 20 km from the metropolis of Bhinmal. At 1220 m top in the Aravalli tiers there on Sundha mountain is temple of goddesses Chamunda Devi, a totally sacred place for devotees. It is 105 km from district headquarters and 35 km. From sub divisional Bhinmal. This area lies in Raniwara Teshil within the mid-east of Malwara to Jaswantpura Road near Dantlawas village.

Sundha Mata temple houses an idol of Goddess Chamunda, placed within a huge stone. Only the head of the idol of Chamunda is worshipped at the temple. Along with Goddess Chamunda, a BhurBhuva Swaweshwar Shiva Linga is also worshiped at the temple. The design of the pillars is reminiscent of those of the Dilwara Temple in Mount Abu. This temple also features some inscriptions of historical value.

Apart from Rajasthan, lakhs of people from Gujarat, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh visit here every year. A nine-day fair is held here twice a year at the time of Navratras and a large crowd of devotees gather. More visitors come to the temple from thirteen to full moon of Shukla Paksha of every month.

History of Sundha Mata Temple

Sudha Mata is also known as Adhghateshwari, which means a Goddess without a torso. Here, the head of Goddess Chamunda is worshipped. As per the legend, when Lord Shiva was performing Tandav carrying the body of Sati, Lord Vishnu decided to chop the body of Sati with his Sudarshan chakra in order to calm down Lord Shiva. It is believed that Sati’s head fell at this place. Hence, this place is considered as one of the Shakti Peeths.

In the temple premises there are three historically significant inscriptions that highlight the history of the region. The first inscription is from AD 1262, which describes victory of Chauhans and the downfall of Parmaras. The second inscription is from 1326, and the third one is from 1727.
