The Grass is always Greener on the Other Side

This idiom encapsulates the human quality of always wanting something different than what you have. It assumes that your neighbor’s yard is greener than yours, when, in reality, they are the same or your neighbor is actually coveting what you have.

“The grass is always greener on the other side”  – We’ve all been there, looking at someone else’s life and thinking of how good they have it, without wondering about their personal cost to get it.

The Grass is Always Greener on the Other Side Reason

This saying is a clearly metaphor to explain how, for many different reasons, other people appear to be always in a better situation compared to us, although they might not be. This feeling can be caused by many different things: other people can appear happier, fulfilled, richer and so on…but in the end what we see doesn’t always reflect how things really are.

This saying reminds us that most of the time we don’t give the right value to what we have and we are always admiring other people’s lives or what they own, forgetting to appreciate our own “fence”.

The Grass is Greener Cow

The Grass is Always Greener on the Other Side Lesson

While the ‘Grass’ may look greener there are other factors that come with the greener ‘grass’. In some cases the ‘Grass’ is actually artificial turf (fake grass), there are cases where all the person has is their ‘Grass’ and therefore they put their full resources into the ‘Grass’ to over compensate for the emptiness or sadness they may have somewhere else. We’ve had to start all-over from scratch, start over with a plow, a rake, and buy new ‘Grass’ just to get it to grow and look green.

If the grass looks greener on the other side… Stop staring. Stop comparing. Stop complaining and start watering the grass you’re standing on. Whatever your challenge is, worrying about it won’t help. Either do something to address it or do something to let it go. Unless you let go, unless you forgive yourself, unless you forgive the situation, unless you accept that it’s over, you cannot move forward. Most people make themselves unhappy simply by finding it impossible to accept life just as it is presenting itself right now.You can’t calm the storm, so stop trying. What you can do is calm yourself, and the storm will pass.
Nothing is permanent. When you understand this, you can do almost anything you wish because you’re not trying to hold onto anything anymore.

The most powerful changes happen when you take control of what you do have power over, instead of craving control over everything you don’t. Too often we see ourselves as the victim, rather than the creator, of our present situation. This is why our life is so difficult to change. When you are no longer able to change a situation, you are challenged to change yourself. And that changes everything.

Being happy and grateful doesn’t mean that everything is perfect. It means you’ve decided to look beyond the imperfections.!

The grass ISN’T greener on the other side. The grass is greener where YOU WATER IT!
