Situated on a beautiful hillock in the Yadagirigutta Town, Yadagirigutta Temple or Sree Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Vari Devastanam is a popular Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Narasimha Swamy. Lord Narasimha is also known as Yadagiri, hence the temple came to known as Yadagirigutta.

According to Skanda Purana, Yada Maharishi, son of venerated Maharshi Rishyasringa performed penance here to Lord Vishnu as Narasimha. Being pleased with his penance lord appeared before him and manifested himself in five forms: Sri Jwala Narasimha, Sri Yogananda, Sri Gandabherunda, Sri Ugra and Sri Lakshmi Narasimha. These five forms are presently worshipped within the temple. Hence the temple is known as Pancha Narasimha Kshetram. Yada Maharishi begged Narasimha to remain on the hill in these forms. For this reason, the Lakshmi-Narasimhadeva temple on the hilltop has deities of Narasimha in all five forms embedded in stone in the main cave.

Yadagirigutta Temple Significance

It is said that the place received its name after a scholar who meditated to the lord Narasimha, and the deity gave darshan to the man in three of his Narasimha forms after he was pleased by the devotional act. The deity was asked by the devotee to reside on the hillock in the three forms that he saw himself. This is the reason that the temple has all these forms of Narasimha in it.

As the temple is located on a hilltop one has to take a long staircase to reach it, it is also believed that when a pilgrim goes to the Yadagirigutta Temple with a sincere heart his or her wishes are always fulfilled.

There is another legend following the earlier story behind the foundation of the Yadagirigutta Temple Timings, it is said that after the scholar achieved salvation, some tribals started strange and wrong ways of worship after hearing the story of the scholar and the three Narasimha forms as they had little knowledge about religion.

Having encountered this improper way of worship the Lakshmi Narasimha moved away to the hill. The deity emerged in the dream of pious lady of the tribe and led her to a cave where he unveiled himself into 5 forms of Narasimha.
